There is something really special about photographing families who don't get to be together very often.
This extended family session took place at a beautiful rental property on Flint Lake near Valparaiso, Indiana, where three generations gathered for a family reunion. With grandparents, their five grown children and spouses, and fourteen grandchildren, it was a full house in the best way.
These families traveled from across the United States—literally coast to coast—to spend time together. As any family with loved ones spread across the country knows, getting everyone in one place is no small feat. That's what makes scheduling professional extended family photos during a reunion such a meaningful investment.
One of my favorite parts of this session was meeting one of the newest member of the family. After years of thirteen grandsons, the family welcomed their very first granddaughter this past year. It was so fun to hear the excitement of finally adding a little girl to this crew of boy cousins.
During our time together, we captured the full extended family, grandparents with their grandchildren, sibling groups, cousins, and individual family portraits for each of the five families. Sessions like these give everyone updated photos while also preserving the relationships that make family gatherings so meaningful.
If you're planning a family reunion in Valparaiso, Northwest Indiana, or the surrounding area, an extended family photography session is one of the best ways to remember your time together. Whether your family is gathering at a lake house, vacation rental, backyard, or local park, I'd love to help document this season for your family with relaxed, timeless photographs you'll treasure for years to come.
